What is Zepbound?

Zepbound® (tirzepatide) is an FDA-approved prescription medication for chronic weight management in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition. It is a dual GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist, meaning it activates two hormone pathways to help control appetite and blood sugar.

How is Zepbound different from Ozempic® or Wegovy®?

While Ozempic and Wegovy activate only GLP-1 receptors, Zepbound activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors. This dual mechanism may lead to greater weight loss in some patients. Zepbound is available as both pens and vials.

Zepbound vials are a lower-cost option that require manual drawing and injection. Pens are pre-filled and offer one-click injection for convenience. Both contain the same medication (tirzepatide).

Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, and injection site reactions. These typically improve over time.

Store Zepbound in the refrigerator at 36°F to 46°F (2°C to 8°C). Do not freeze. Zepbound can be stored at room temperature up to 86°F (30°C) for up to 30 days.

Zepbound pricing: $45 initial consult, $145/mo membership. Total costs range from $399/mo to $1,050/mo depending on formulation (vials vs. pens) and insurance coverage.

Zepbound should not be used if you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN 2. Inform your provider about all medical conditions.
